1.
Codeine-promethazine cough syrup cut into soda — the Houston drink. Also, plainly, a drink.
Styrofoam cup, two pours of drank, and the tape slowed all the way down.
Origin & Attribution
Houston, 1990s, from the Southern pronunciation of drink. Black Houston blues musicians were mixing cough medicine into beer and wine as early as the 1960s; by the 1990s the recipe had shifted to codeine syrup and DJ Screw made it inseparable from the chopped-and-screwed sound he built. Three 6 Mafia and UGK's "Sippin' on Some Syrup" carried it national in 2000. The word names a drug that has killed people from this scene, including Screw himself in 2000 — the archive records the term, not a recommendation.
