Coined in Black speech and pushed forward by Chicago rapper Chief Keef, whose 2013 "Gotta Glo Up One Day" played on "grow up" and gave his Glo Gang its name. The before-and-after culture of Instagram and TikTok later carried it mainstream, obscuring its hip-hop origin.
