1.
A short, sharp dance routine made by Jalaiah Harmon in 2019 to K Camp's 'Lottery'; a standard example of a Black creator's choreography going viral while others took the credit.
“Everyone did the Renegade that year, but Jalaiah Harmon made it.”
Origin & Attribution
Jalaiah Harmon, then a young teenager from Fayetteville, Georgia, choreographed the dance on or around September 25, 2019 to 'Lottery' by Atlanta rapper K Camp and first posted it on Funimate. Another user reposted it to TikTok in October 2019 with some of the moves changed, and it spread through white teen influencers, among them Charli D'Amelio and Addison Rae, with no credit to Harmon. Taylor Lorenz's February 13, 2020 New York Times article 'The Original Renegade' named Harmon as its creator; K Camp then thanked her publicly and she was invited to perform it at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game in Chicago. The archive records Harmon, an Atlanta-area Black dancer, as the originator, in a pattern long seen in Black dance.
