A party, club night or hall gathering where people come to do Chicago steppin'. Set carries its ordinary Black vernacular sense of a gathering; you attend a steppers set and you step at it. Older crowd, soul and dusties, food, and a dress code — steppers sharp.

Origin & Attribution
Chicago's South and West sides. The dance runs back through 1940s and 1950s Bop, out of Lindy Hop and jitterbug, into a straight-line variation in the late 1960s and New Bop after 1971. The name steppin' was coined in 1974 by Chicago DJ and prompter Sam Chatman, the Godfather of Steppin', who called out at a party that a couple looked like they were stepping. Chatman also gave the scene steppers sharp. WKKC and later WVAZ carried the music; the set is where it lives.
